The Cloudcast - Eps.16 - “Dell, Dude You're Getting Big Data Clouds”
Date: August 21, 2011
Guests:
Joseph George (@jbgeorge, Dir. of Marketing - Cloud & Data Solutions, http://jbgeorge.net/)
Rob Hirschfield (@zehicle, Principle Cloud Architect, http://robhirschfeld.com/)
Aurelian Dumitru (@ADatDell, Lead Architect - Dell Hadoop Solution, http://rationalintelligence.com/)

Before we get started, Aaron and Brian always do a few checklists to make sure we’re on format and haven’t forgotten anything. Lets run through the Dell checklist:

We talk about the breadth of Dell Cloud and Big Data offerings and how they have quietly put together a portfolio that appears to play in almost every element of these markets.

We discussed the history of the Data Center Solution team having built some of the largest Clouds in the world (Yahoo, Microsoft, Joyent), and how that experience has helped them develop tools like Crowbar.

We talked about the progress that OpenStack has made over the past 12-18 months and how it's different from other open-source clouds because of it's "community" nature.

We discussed why Big Data solutions such as Hadoop are starting to gain traction with customers.
[NOTE: We didn't cover Big Data enough, so we'll dedicate another show to that soon]

We learned about the history of Crowbar and how it is quickly being adopted by various Cloud projects (Cloud Foundry, Dreamhost-CEHF, OpenStack and others)

“A.D” talks about Hadoop vs. Enterprise Data Warehouse:
