The Cloudcast #135 - Scaling and DevOps at GitHub

ChatOps Session on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pCVvYCjvoZI

Topic 1 - You’ve run Ops for some pretty large and cutting-edge companies, from 37Signals to
Salesforce to Heroku to LivingSocial and now GitHub. Tell us about your background and how the things you’ve worked on have changed over the last few years.

Topic 2 - I suspect that most of our listeners know what GitHub does, but give us the basics and some of the areas/functionality that you’re really excited about?

Topic 3 - The first time we met was at a local Triangle DevOps meetup and you seamlessly talked about DevOps, Networking, PaaS, Hardware, etc. How do you connect all of that together? What technologies are the most helpful to you these days?

Topic 4 - From a developers perspective, you could argue that GitHub is one of their 5 most important/critical tools. What does the DevOps environment look like that runs all of it?

Topic 5 - Sometimes we’ll hear people say that Operational things at web-scale aren’t applicable to the Enterprise. Is anything applicable in an Enterprise environment? What’s the big mistakes you hear them say?

Topic 6 - What do you look for from people that join your teams in terms of skills or mindset to solving problems?
